Well, its a long story. Here goes, I met Bear last June, in a movement called Restore the Fourth. We were co-founders him working more in journalism and myself more in marketing, we were acquaintances to say the least. Through things from an attempted co-opting to a money stealing scandal we stayed working. Eventually as RT4 died we both left but have still stayed in touch through way I don't want to say here for fear of them being found out. Him, me and a few others from RT4 have stayed good friends, us all talking to each other almost every day. Enough back story now. This is what has happened. A day ago the latest greenwald story was posted to /r/news but was removed when it was in peak popularity as it violated a few of the subreddit's rules. This lead to the subreddit /r/conspiracy getting angry on account of crying censorship. They specifically named /u/BipolarBear0 as the "culprit" of the post's removal calling him things such as anti-Semitic (when he is Jewish himself) and a shill. When responded with theses accusations Bear approved anothe post that quickly floated to the top of /r/news. However the comments on this post were not about the article, but about how "terrible Bear was". It has escalated into a full fledged internet witchhunt. A post in /r/restorethefourth was made calling for Bear to step down as mod,. It has gone past that with huge subs like /r/worldnews user's brigading and even 4chan's /pol/ getting in on the fun. It doesn't end there, oh no. /Pol/ has now doxxed Bear finding out an unconfirmed address, his xbox live account, his work address, his high school, his full name, and his facebook. IT has gone to the point of their obsession with him for just being Jewish and exposing the subreddit's hat for Jews in an experiment where he posed racist titles to see if they were upvoted, and they were. He released it an ever since they have a vendetta against him. It is a huge clusterfuck that could potentially end up with Tyler dead, or an embarresment for Reddit on the hands of /r/conspiracy and /r/nolibswatch.
Apparently marketing on social media is all the rage. But frankly I'm getting tired of the ads plastered all over reddit, time for a new spot to hang out where advertisements aren't mysteriously upvoted 10x higher than most posts to the top of any given subreddit. Let's see what Hubski can do, don't mess it up.
We do our best. I can't say that Hubski's goal is to be a replacement for Reddit; however, Reddit has provided some experiences that have informed my philosophy and approach to Hubski. My primary goal is (and has been) to create a place that otherwise wouldn't have existed, a place that I want to spend my time at. There is a glut of spaces that want your eyeballs at almost any cost, and many of those that have mandates regarding content envy the traffic of those that don't. I have no interest in that. I am interested in making a place that people value because it appeals to them intellectually and because it meets or exceeds their expectations. The rest of the team shares this vision, and that's what motivates us.
My life philosophy is "don't fuck this up"Let's see what Hubski can do, don't mess it up.
No joke, you've been sounding that trumpet since you came on board and I really appreciate that. My goal is to keep Hubski a place that I enjoy spending time at. We are first and foremost users of the site and as I've said countless times now, I'd rather Hubski not exist than exist in a compromised way. I look forward to the mead tasting this Monday. I got my bottle all lined up! mk you might want to throw out a reminder so people have time to get their goods.
