EDIT: It is now 9pm EST (or past it), I hope that you are fortunate enough to have a nice bottle of Pinot Noir to consume. First things first to give this some semblance of structure:
1. Raise your glass, cheers to good friends virtual or otherwise!
2. What bottle are you drinking? What prompted you to choose it?
3. Now that you've tried it, what do you think?
We can go from there, but I think that's a good start. Here is the IRC, which I plan on joining at 9:30 or 10:00.
See you on Hubski IRC for real time discussion of our awesome pinot's!
end edit _________----------------___________
Here are the two bottles I'm opening for the tasting:

I'm sure I missed some people from the previous post. On a whim, I'm going to guess that briandmyers would dig this too.
My wife is extremely close to giving birth (any day now) and potentially tonight. I will literally be "tasting" so I can drive in case something happens in which case one of you will have to steer the discussion.
See ya all tonight at 9EST!
Late to the party ... alas, the craziness of V-day weekend and aftermath continued in full swing till quite late last evening, and the best I could muster was a few sips of our current BTG pinot. It's not one of my favorites, mostly because it's a typical California styled pinot noir, and I really tend to prefer those from Oregon/New Zealand/Burgundy, not necessarily in that order. Still, no one should cry for me, because, given it's stylistic aspirations, Etude's Lyric is quite successful. The fruit is mostly berry, all ripe, and the pinot noir dead-giveaway aroma of cola was front and center. Beyond that, secondary/mineral/earth notes were well far away in the background, as they tend to be in Cali. pinots (in my opinion). I love your approach to this one, thenewgreen, and totally envy the assortment you lined up. Setting regions and labels side by side is really the best way to let stylistic differences show up. Everyone was off the IRC by the time I tried to link up (or else I just failed in an epic fashion), but I'd love to know how they performed. Also, I'm really curious to know how you liked the R. Stuart & Co., humanodon. I'm not familiar with that house, but the region is my favorite for the grape, and it looks like it might just be a stellar specimen. Anyway, happy to be involved, even if disjointed in time as well as space. I'll lift my next glass as well as previous to you all, just to make sure I haven't missed anyone. Cheers!
I really enjoyed it and I would definitely have it again. If I do have it again, I hope my wine knowledge and experience will have expanded such that I can compare notes with myself. I wrote a little something elsewhere in this thread about my initial reactions. It smells a bit like Worcestershire sauce (which I like a lot) and very faintly of pine needles at the end. On tasting, there's a note of leather, though not at all the kind of impression I get of leather when tasting a scotch, if that makes sense. It's not sweet, but it is bright without being acidic. So far, I like it a lot. I can also taste a bit of nutmeg or allspice.
Sorry guys, I ended up having to fly down to Alabama today and just got into the hotel. Unfortunately, no Pinot Noir was with me. Catch y'all next time! (also, is the 64chan IRC not the official Hubski IRC channel? That's the one that I have been idling in for some time now.)
Tonight by the grace of friendship and good fortune, I will be enjoying this: Which the wine merchant informed me, is his favorite. I'll do my best do describe it and to describe it in terms more vivid than "swell". Or even "swell swill" (as I'm pretty darn sure that this is not even close to being swill).
Awesome! Glad you are on board pal. "Swell swill" beats "schwag swill" any day. Look forward to hearing about it.
Me three! I feel like the guy that throws a party and the keg hasn't arrived yet. "ummm, I swear it should be here any minute guys" In all seriousness, I'm not too familiar with IRC's and any advice is most welcome. mibbit seems to be down.
In the meantime I'm watching the hivemind play pokemon. It's terrifying and frustrating. But there's something soothing about that music loop. dat childhood, yo.
I jumped into this thread for a tiny break from studying and this is one of the best things I've ever seen. You can tell they randomly managed to hit 'name this pokemon something else' -- AAAAABAKK -- and then sometimes got stuck with 'Pidgeot'. EDIT: how the fuck did they evolve a Pidgeot I've been watching for ten minutes and they haven't left the room they were in when I turned it on.

I want to get on IRC as well. mk, any advice?
Umm.. sure I am. humanodon, I've never heard that 30 minutes was the magic number but allowing a red wine to "breathe" really does transform how it drinks. If you have a wine with harsh tannins, it can really do a good bit to smooth them out. sounds_sound you get bottle?
2. What bottle are you drinking? What prompted you to choose it? 3. Now that you've tried it, what do you think? 1. Cheers! 2. I'm drinking this: It was actually chosen by the merchant. 3. Edit: I can also taste a bit of nutmeg or allspice.1. Raise your glass, cheers to good friends virtual or otherwise!
2. What bottle are you drinking? What prompted you to choose it? 3. Now that you've tried it, what do you think? 1. Here's to you. 2. I am drinking "Grayson Cellars 2013 Pinor Noir California Lot 5." I decided to buy it because I can't find Irony for the life of me anywhere except one place in PA. It was also highly rated by some organization of wine schnobs - I mean professionals ;) - somewhere. This is how I pick my wines. If someone says it's good well it's probably good right! 3. I have even done the proper thing and let it breathe before drinking it. It smells...darkly fruity. It tastes like there aren't a lot of tannins. Like, it's not bitter. I like it. It's not very sweet, at least not overtly. It's kind of light. So far, I would drink it again. In fact, I have this whole bottle so I suspect I will. Perhaps only tonight though. (Actually, so far, I really like this. I think I'll have to remember it. It was only like $13.) 1. Raise your glass, cheers to good friends virtual or otherwise!
We need to be sour beer friends. I LOVE sour beers!
http://www.belgo-restaurants.co.uk/beers This is an awesome restaurant here which serves moules and frites, amongst other things, and offers a thick, multi-page beer menu to go with the food.
Well, I ended up with all of 15 minutes of free time this evening, and compounding that I couldn't get to the liquor store on a day it was open. So I'm stuck with a Forest Glen Cabernet Sauvignon -- incredibly cheap, smells like cherries, tastes interesting. It's what I had. Let it be known that I drank it. The end.

should work now
Well, I cannot update the post because Hubski has been fucked up since the markup rollout. But let's see if this link works because I'm in IRC right now. Come join me: http://client00.chat.mibbit.com/?server=irc.mountai.net&channel=%23hubski
minimum_wage If you are around, can you provide the link to the IRC? Not working for me. Thanks
I will have to pass on this due to having to get a new phone today. Hopefully next time or a few from now after I've had time to recover from today's expenditures.
puts on "well-i-heard-it-on-the-internet" voice Well the internet tells me it doesn't matter. So there! No but really, the internet tells me lots of things and then bartenders at wine bars tell me other things, so I'm not sure who to believe here. Also, yeah. No one can get on IRC. :(
I keep the attitude and don't boil it. It's still quite good. I also enjoy kale in my juice. I use kale, apples, whole lemon, beets, romaine, celery, and a little ginger and grapes. So good. Get some Pinot Noir. You have a little over an hour. No excuses!
I'm going to have abstain from this round, unfortunately. Valentines Day took a nice chunk of change out of my meager college student wallet so I really can't justify spending the money to get a decent bottle. I'd still like to participate in the future though!
