Why buying advertising from facebook to get likes is a bad idea?

This happened to me when I started The Advanced Apes facebook page. I quickly realized all my new likes were coming from the developing world, and they were all fake accounts that failed to increase my actual reach. It's disappointing that such an integral aspect of the social media community is so inept and corrupt. But it's nice to see Veritasium expose their activity.

After about two years of trying to build the TAA Facebook page I can say that most of my engagement comes from people who had stumbled upon my site and enjoyed reading the articles before committing to like the page.
