As a website owner/operator/webhost I wish every site was SSL-enabled. Honestly, price is one of the biggest barriers to this though. You're not going to convince people who pay $1/mo for a website that they need to shell out another $50/yr to get an SSL cert (but this barrier is arguably necessary to the trust model). Also, with most configurations you need one IP address per SSL-enabled site. This is also a huge barrier. The web needs to be encrypted but I don't think this iteration of SSL is going to do the trick.
