Great article captures the Phil perfectly. Little harsh with the he is not a great writer part. [but I have suspected that for a while Lem held a similar opinion but thought it was stylistic choice]
Actually, I agree with the author that Dick is kind of a shitty writer. But that also makes him kind of endearing in a lot of ways. There's no pretentiousness to the way he writes. He wants his ideas to be what we get out of his stories, and it's almost as if he prefers a no frills approach, like a carefully crafted sentence might diminish the work in some way. I haven't read Valis yet, but I have a copy. After reading this, I'm excited to tackle it.
