We know that using hubski on a small screen can be a pain and we've had a number of people ask for mobile apps or mobile versions of the site. I have personally spent a lot of time (mostly in class) fumbling around with hubski on my phone and before I joined hubski was working on an Android app. In order to give as many users as possible a pleasant mobile experience we have been working on a mobile version of the site. As it stands it has most of the functionality of hubski in a format which is much better suited to small screens. It can be accessed from hubski.com/m/ or by clicking the mobile link at the bottom of the page.
We would love to get feedback from everyone on hubski mobile as we continue to develop the site as we only have so many mobile devices to test on.
Thank you very much! Could I have the source code? My email is [email protected]. It's pretty difficult to navigate the source using my browser. I would love to configure some styles for myself and others if they so please. I know that others including minimum_wage and humanodon want a dark theme, which I would love to help out with.
That was actually the first thing we looked into. Unfortunately it wasn't as feasible for us as creating a separate site. One of the issues I have with simple responsive design is typically you design for mobile first and then build from there and it is very difficult to go the other way. You often end up loading a lot of stuff you don't need. Perhaps one day we'll look at redesigning hubski from the ground up but I wanted to get a mobile friendly site out as soon as possible.
Awesome! I've been wanting this since the first day I joined. It definitely makes reading, posting, and navigating a lot easier. On an iPhone 4, the first thing I'm noticing is that the menu frequently pops up when I swipe upward. I have to be kind of careful with my swipes, and I think I'd rather the menu only be available through the button than by any swipe motion.
I hear you on the swipe motion, it's far too sensitive right now. Every time I scroll down or up I end up triggering it. But if there were a way to make it less sensitive, I think it might be cool. Otherwise, I agree that just having the menu button would be fine.
In notifications, it would be nice to be able to dismiss them. Edit: my bad , it was a three comment thread and therefore the "dismiss" button was below the 3rd comment. Sorry about that.
I love this. Well done forwardslash! I did find one thing - I can't seem to share. If I tap on the hub wheel for an article, from the article itself or the main page, it stays the same color.
Hey /, On iOS 7.0.4 using Mobile Safari on iPhone 5s, I've had an issue over time with the side-menu which can be summoned with a 'right-swipe' from the left side of the screen: Basically, the sensitivity is through the roof and I'm not sure that I've used it once without accidentally triggering the side menu while trying to scroll down (with an 'up-swipe' of my thumb from various points on the screen). As of this version, I've also noticed some wonkiness where the gesture will sometimes call up the menu, and other times just return to the previous screen, with no seeming rhyme or reason for either. I'm not sure if I'm just missing something here. Anyway, it's coming along really well. Outstanding work, and thank you!!!
