Got back in to this Sandro Perri album. BUT I LISTENED TO THE COOLEST THING EVER THIS WEEK My mother and sister drove from Michigan to NC to be at my daughters 3rd birthday party. They came in on Wednesday and the party was Saturday. That was a great surprise for my kid, she loved it. But her favorite person in the world is my dad. My dad took the redeye from Michigan to NC Friday night and surprised her Saturday at her party by showing up. -Pretty cool of him. After the party and the clean up etc, my dad and I made a run to get some food/beer. On the drive he says, "I have something I have to tell you." I was worried, and said.. "okay..." He responded, "I've been playing the harmonica." My dad has never played an instrument. Ever. He thought I would think it was "weird." I didn't/don't. I think it is the greatest thing ever. He told me that he can't stop playing and that his whole life he always thought it would be something he would like so he finally just bought one. My dad has always been a whistler. He whistles to every song on the radio but he always whistles his own melodies. He's got an ear for it. When we got back to my house, I pulled out several of my harmonicas and my guitar and I jammed with my dad. How fucking cool is that? Best part is, he sounded great. He closed his eyes and played and it wasn't corny or predictable at all. He had his own sound, his own thing going on. That was the best music Ive heard in a long time.
He's just playing by ear. When I asked him about his style he said, "I think I'm a rhythm harmonica player." -He doesn't like to solo or make pronounced melodies, he prefers to make "pad". I guess musically, I am my fathers son because I'm not much of a soloist myself.
One of the great things about not listening to the radio is having the only overplayed music be the music you chose to overplay. I assume, because it had such controversy surrounding it and I think it sold quite well, that I'm quite late to the party but this has been my latest earworm: Jimmyy Fallon, Robin Thicke & The Roots Sing "Blurred Lines" (w/ Classroom Instruments)
Albany - Your Head Is Still Young Came upon this earlier today. Regardless of the frequency, I'm always impressed when an artist can make me feel peaceful.
New St. Vincent Single! Birth In Reverse - St. Vincent
This girl does a pretty version of Portugal The Man's "People Say"
Ghost - Opus Eponymous It has an oldschool metal feel.
For some reason a hubwheel is not appearing for this post and trying to vote for this thread gives the response "Sorry, but Astral was here first."
Looking into it. For some reason the server decided to generate a dash instead of the img tag. Weird.
I vaguely recall that having happened because a post counted as having either less than 0 shares or more than 8 in the past. Or I might be imagining that; it's very late/early in my time zone, and the coffee brews slowly. If the count of shares is not actually materialized assume I am imagining that.
Yeah, for some reason it counted a bunch of down votes in a row and sent it into negatives. I wasn't even aware that could happen. At some point I'll make sure that doesn't happen.
They're a very interesting band if you delve into each band members history. Matthew Frank (of Loose Lips Sink Ships) writes the songs but Evan Weiss (who's in Into It. Over It. and a slew of other Chicago bands) sings the songs. So they end up sounding like another Weiss band when the songs aren't really. Plus they have Mike Kinsella on drums, who's been a member of some of the most famous progressive emo bands ever (Cap'n Jazz, American Football, Owls, Owen) but neither writes the songs nor sings.

Been listening to this jam by Midlake on repeat. From their new album, Antiphon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbNtl0UC_BI Also, every once in a couple years, I get a hankering to listen to this cut from back in the day. No idea why this one over all others, but what the hell. "Return of the Mack" by Mark Morrison. But I mean, come on, it's dope.
Dave and Tim at Radio City I've had this on repeat for a week now, I personally like Dave and Tim working together better than the band.
I have discovered My Dick. This is the greatest musical achievement in the history of mankind. Dancing in My Dick is the best, as is Dick in Heaven and Two Dicks. Also, aivi & surasshu is fantastic. They mash together jazz piano and chiptune music into a highly intriguing combination. They also do the music for Steven Universe, the best show on television right now.
