It's been freaking forever since I wrote a proper blog post, but I've been holding onto a good 'un: The Skull of the Cyclops. In medieval times people kept digging up bones in Sicily which they thought must belong to Cyclopses, but which were probably just fossils of extinct elephants. The early accounts of these skeletons are pretty entertaining, and it turns out 17th-century polymath Athanasius Kircher really knew how to rip someone a knew hole.
