"I was a little disappointed when I watched the LoTR trilogy" I am a fan of the books too but wasn't "disappointed" with the films. They were wonderful, I enjoyed every minute of them. They did leave out some characters/scenes from the books but those are three of the most dense books in history, the fact that he remained as true to them as he did is miraculous IMO.
I'm excited for the Hobbit, I plan on re-reading it before December of next year!
