The new Death Grips album, Government Plates
BB Brunes-Le Gang I'll go see Lemon Bucket Orchestra this tuesday if school is not too crazy, it was great last time until the police arrived because we were making noise on the main club street on a friday night: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwQJC8Oh_Ug It was awesome, the video's shitty but it gives you an idea.
Just tried Sky Ferreira from a recommendation from Spotify, like it, and see that she's playing in Detroit this Wednesday. I am now planning to go. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFCZP1Nz3Ds
I listened to a lot of music this week, but I've mentioned most of it before on Hubski or even in these weekly threads: Foxygen, The Blisters, Andrew Bird, Wilco, The Shins, Broken Bells etc. But my favorite music moment of the week happened when I was driving with cW or Clive Watson and Olive Watson when Clive sang The Great Nations of Europe to me from memory and without accompaniment. It was fun and hilarious. Great song, cynical and biting Randy Newman at his best imo.
I've been listening to Typhoon. I just bought their latest album and it's terrific. Tiny Desk Concert Tiny SXSW Concert The appropriately named Typhoon is a sprawling band with an epic sound. The group from Portland, Ore. crafts rock anthems like emotional tidal waves, propelled by the stories of frontman Kyle Morton. His deeply personal tales are often full of grief and loss. But just as often they celebrate and praise life's simple wonders. Morton himself is a very grateful (and lucky) man who writes songs as if he were living on borrowed time. That's because a random bug bite when he was a child left him with a monstrous case of Lyme disease that led to multiple organ failures. Morton's own father donated a kidney to save his son's life. - Bob Boilen, NPR
Man I love those Tiny Desk Concerts, I think they're one of the cooler things that NPR is doing these days. I enjoyed watching that, thanks. I haven't listened to Typhoon before and I liked a lot of what I heard. I have a hard time with the Adam Duritz quality of the singer's voice, but I bet it would grow on me. Thanks for sharing.
Posted some of these in another unrelated thread. I've been on a classic hip-hop binge lately reliving some of my first exposures to hip-hop. Big Daddy Kane - Ain't No Half Stepping http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2l2O-JOXG_I Paperboy - Ditty. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imhEIcv7tI4 De La Soul - Ring Ring Ring. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrpZUT0F6E4 UGK (Underground Kings) - One Day.
Hmmm, lets pull up some links: Hatsuki Yura - I'm absolutely addicted this artist. So many good albums. link 1, link 2. Eine Kleine - Again, an amazing artist. another link. エミルの愛した月夜に第Ⅲ幻想曲を - No albums out yet, but from the few song samples I've heard, they are amazing. Gildia - Some great stuff as well. Still listening though. I kind of just hit the jackpot on music that I like. There's tons of other stuff I still need to dig into, so those might come next week. I'm still not done listening to these current artists :P
If you haven't noticed yet that I love depressing/emotive music, this will seal it. Tom Waits - You can Never Hold Back Spring Stan Rogers - Tiny Fish for Japan Death Cab for Cutie - Tiny Vessels
Exist Strategy -- Dreamcatcher...very soothing album: Buy/listen: http://existstrategy.bandcamp.com/album/dreamcatcher
My friend back in Portland made this electronic album. It was surprisingly good.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3ZbkdfYDLo Aesop Rock's Float album. Every song is great, which usually isn't the case for me, I usually like one or two songs on an album. Some songs are better than others, but I can listen to it the whole way through.
I've been really into the Clark remix album lately. If you haven't heard of Clark, he makes this weird chaotic electronic music, it's pretty wild. The other new music I've been listening to is ProleteR. They've got this really nice modern french jazz/swing thing going on.
