So National Socialism was never very popular in the US, but in the 1930's people sort of, a little bit, in pockets of the US entertained that it could be a viable alternative to democratic capitalism. On top of this obscurity, the man that spearheaded the "German American Bund" was a "pilfering buffoon." Is this story of interest because it has colorful and entertaining characters or because it actually has a relevance in American history? I like the point about how FDR etc used to speak of the German vote, in a way that politicians now will talk about the hispanic vote etc. -Interesting to consider as a lot has changed.
