Found this through the latest Zenpencils, which is just a snippet of his speech.
Be pro-stuff, not just anti-stuff.
From what I've read posted and commented here on hubski, I'd say much of this speech seems to reflect the philosophy of this place. Be hard on your beliefs. Take them out onto the verandah and beat them with a cricket bat.
Lot's of good stuff in this speech to be pro about.
I really like it, glad to see others like it too. Especially this part: I really needed that. I often get scared by the foresight of finishing my study and being let loose in the big world full of options. Not that I'll be in a bad situation, on the contrary, but there's a part of me that wants to know what to do already. The uncertainty making me uneasy. And so I advocate passionate dedication to the pursuit of short-term goals. Be micro-ambitious. Put your head down and work with pride on whatever is in front of you… you never know where you might end up.
This video pretty much sums up why I love Minchin and everything he does: he's funny, intelligent, self aware and genuine. I also discovered him just as I was getting into the stage where I was starting to question religion and some other things in my adolescent life, so he's always been really influential to me.
A philosophy I try to live by every day day, and I laugh when people ask why I know so many random things.
My Advanced-English teacher in high-school stated there are two types of people in the world: those who know a little about a lot, and those who know a lot about a little. I chose to be the kind who knows a little about a lot, that way I can always learn more. Thanks for posting this; Tim Minchin is a philosophical and lyrical genius, check out some of his other works if you haven't already!Learn as much as you can about as much as you can
