You know how everyone talks about how the first impression is so important? That's how I feel about Drake. The first time I saw him was on Degrassi. I was watching because it was summer and there was nothing else on. Or I like teen dramas. Whatever. Anyway, for me, he will always be the half-white kid on Degrassi. That's not fair, I know, but I don't want to listen to the dude from Degrassi's music.
I'm with you, I like some of his stuff, but I just can't take the dude seriously. He was the crippled nerd on Degrassi, now he's "making it rain on hoes", and talking about how much more gangster he is than other rappers. I would have expected a much more thoughtful hip-hop lyrical style from someone who was educated and with his acting background. But Lil Wayne took him under his wing and kind of made him in the rap game. He owes his rap career to Wayne and no one else. But yeah, I'm not a huge drake fan. Shit's too poppy and too fake for me, though he does have a few gems in there that no one could say are bad. EDIT: Just realized I'm replying to a 7 day old comment. Don't know how I found myself here!
What? Ok, Wikipedia time: Wow. That is complicated. So, Drake is basically a character that came to life. I would gladly swap Drake for J-Roc. I wonder if this dude knows that his stage name is a homophone of a Trailer Park Boys character. He was the crippled nerd on Degrassi
He comes from a wealthy family, and is often seen with expensive clothes and gear. He is Gavin "Spinner" Mason's best friend, though the two fight frequently. He dates Ashley until she takes ecstasy and cheats on him at a party. She eventually goes Goth and they get back together, but she breaks up with him after she realizes that he prefers the old Ashley. He dates Hazel Aden from seasons 3–5 until he reveals to her that he has feelings for Ellie. After Spinner and Jay trick Rick into thinking that Jimmy pulled a prank on him, Rick shoots him in the back, which causes him to use a wheelchair throughout the rest of the series. This resulted in Jimmy ending his friendship with Spinner until the end of season 5. His dad tries to put him in handicap basketball, but Ellie helps Jimmy discover his artistic talent. He graduates Degrassi in season 7, a year later than planned because of the time he had to take off due to the shooting, and therapy. He starts to pursue a career in music that blossoms when he rekindles his relationship with Ashley, but they ultimately break up when her musical talent is ignored by a friend of Ellie's, who takes interest into Jimmy's talent. He starts dating Trina in season 7, who is another physically challenged individual. He is briefly seen being there for Spinner after he doesn't make it into a police academy. He also reveals that he is contemplating proposing to Trina, showing Spinner a sign that he needs to move on with his life.
He makes references in his music to his role on Degrassi being pretty ironic considering his actual life path. There's one line, forget the song, where he pretty much says "Degrassi real, only thing I lost is the chair"
i absolutely adore ezra koenig. it's not creepy or anything. i swear. my favorite part of the review: "FLASH FORWARD ABOUT TWO HOURS: Me, Panda and Nathan are walking to the show after getting some BBQ in the East Village (NOT MY IDEA). Panda and Nathan won’t stop talking about guys from their college frat. I smile and pretend to follow their rando stories. They keep saying “Oh, this is probably so boring for you. You don’t know anyone from our college.” BUT THEN THEY JUST KEEP ON REMINISCING."
Was there a better way to tell that story? Probably not. But anyone who skims that will lose the thread very quickly. If lappelduvide follows ezra koenig maybe he can say whether that was deliberate narrative style or a typical syample of ek's train-of-thought rambling. I could go investigate myself, but I fear the consequences. What the hell did I just read?
Exactly. What the hell was that about? But wasn't it kind of fun the way he totally did not review anything about Drake's new album. He wanted to tell a story about people not following through.
