They had moved half a dozen times before she had ever questioned the existence of the dark orb that hung from the corner of each of her bedroom ceilings. Aside from herself, it was the only constant that all of her bedrooms had in common. It hung like a black ramekin and was the size of a tennis ball cut in two. It was not a menacing presence, in fact she took comfort from it. When waking up suddenly from a bad dream, as she often did, she could orient herself by finding it's reassuring shape. When her first tooth came free, when she first learned to write her name, for countless bedtime stories and many midnight snacks, it had always been there. But never was it's presence more noteworthy than the night Tony Movano died.
humanodon you're up. Feel free to edit (severely, changing names, words, punctuation or scrap everything).
Anyone else interested?

By the way, one idea that came out of our storyclub post-mortem was to limit it to 10 chapters. Otherwise, as insomniasexx says, it might have to be killed off. In other words, avoid introducing too many new threads, so that Chapter 10 contributor can end it. Another thing I feel quite strongly about is that authors should put Chapter 1, 2, whatever, at the top of their chapter. It makes it easier to pick up the thread where one last left off.
I like this idea. If we aim to make this story complete by chapter 10, maybe it might make sense to be aware where the story should be structurally speaking? As in, ok, I'm writing the fourth chapter, the first plot point needs to have happened by now. Or, ok eight chapter -- if I can't make it into the third act by now, at least I can set up a path for the ninth to get into it. Might provide the direction needed to keep it cohesive. Also, I like the intro thenewgreen! Count me interested. Also it might be a good idea to talk about these things in comment thread of the chapter. (eg What might this character want? What is the dramatic tension here? What themes are emerging?) EDIT: More ideas! What if -- ok continuing on this "meta-discussion in comments" line of thought -- what if it's starting to make sense for a particular thing to happen in chapter five but in order for it to work properly, something needs to change in chapter 1. What if I discuss it with humanodon and he's willing to rewrite a section in order to pay off in chapter five? Then, each section is still a living evolving thing as the story progresses much like how solo-writing may be.
Hey Floatie, good ideas. Regarding your edit: but in order for it to work properly, something needs to change in chapter 1
You don't need to ask tmg or humanodon to make the change. If you want a gun to go off in Chapter 5, put it on a shelf in Chapter 1 yourself. I didn't write for our last project, but when things stopped making sense, I went back and changed a few details (i.e. how could the caribou girl be running out of town at the end of one chapter and be in town at the beginning of the next). I'd rather not do that, but no one seemed to mind. Also, fix your predecessors' typos. They will thank you.
lil, I like what you're saying, but I really think each person should edit the entirety of the thing, once their piece is added, or as they are adding their piece. Of course, this makes it hard to see exactly what was done, but I guess the previous versions can be accessed. By chopping it into chapters by contributor, it seems like that creates opportunities to add more and more characters/settings/whatever, thus ending up with a spaghetti story like last time. I don't know, thenewgreen wants to do this like we did the first time since mk is apparently working on something that will make things easier. I for one, just want to know what to go with before I jump.
I think you might have misunderstood me. I want the ENTIRE story to be reprinted every time. As you say, if it wasn't all together, people might lose track of the various threads. Like you, I don't want to have to go looking for the different chapters (even with the new amazing sticky ap). I was just suggesting that as you add your chapter to the whole story, you put Chapter 1 or whatever at the top of your new section. Yes, keep the story together. One thing about labelling each new section with a title or chapter number is that it will make it easier to talk about - e.g. "Can someone pick up the gun already? It's been on the shelf since Chapter 3." In any event, as an author, you will have control of whether your contribution is chaptrified within the larger piece. You can always add to another chapter. If I were to have one rule, it would be this: No caribou.thus ending up with a spaghetti story like last time
I found the long singular narrative hard to follow. I regret having an opinion but here it is:
They had moved half a dozen times before she had ever questioned the existence of the caribou that hung from the corner of each of her bedroom ceilings.... Let's all sit tight on starting this round of #storyclub. I have it on good faith that there will be a new tool on Hubski that is going to make this quite a bit easier. So, hold tight humanodon, lil, AshShields, Floatbox, delta, dead5 and insomniasexx. Trust me.
Is this your way of lighting a fire under mk and / asses?
Nah, I'm just really excited about this one and mk said it should be done this weekend. I figure why go through all the new posting etc when we can use the new functions. That's all. edit. Okay maybe a little bit...
You can see the previous story evolution and get a general sense here: http://hubski.com/tag?id=storyclub Basically, one person writes a paragraph or two, the next does the same, and on and on until lil and I don our murdering suits and kill it.
Nope. Let's just hope for the best. mk is working on something that is going to make stuff like this...awesomer! Patience though, it's in a long cue of things that make hubski awesomer. I think you'll like it though. I'll pen-pal you about it.
Ooh, that sounds exciting! I await with baited breath. Also, definitely count me in for this round. I sorta dropped out of hubski for a while during the last storyclub, only seems poetic to drop back in proper in the next round.
