The library in Troy, MI had a librarian that did a similar project back in the early 70s. She sent a letter to as many famous people (and some no so famous people) as she could and asked them to tell what was important to them about reading and libraries. Some notable responders include Pat Nixon, Dr. Seuss, Ronald Reagan and Neil Armstrong, but there are a lot more.

Although, I should add, as a sad epilogue. This library is shuttered (hopefully only temporarily) because the TEA party fever that swept the nation apparently doesn't think reading is as important as those damn commies the Nixons and Reagans did.
