This doesn't even mention the paperwork nightmare that happening right now. There are three dates per year when NIH accepts large grant applications. Oct 5 happens to be one of them (Feb 5 and Jun 5 are the other two). Obviously, that ain't happening right now. So nobody really knows if they're cancelling the round, or if they'll accept all the grants once the gov't comes back online. My guess is that it will depend how long this bullshit is kept up. Boehner should do us all a favor and resign for dereliction of duty. This mess is 100% his fault (or his doing, if you happen to agree with his tactic). Any other reading of the situation is incorrect.
Since I don't really know, how will this affect people who are applying for grants necessary to continue their research? Say they are in a 3-year cycle, with this being the third year. If it's a project that is not finished and was hoping to apply for additional grants this month, does it simply mean the project will go unfinished or find other sources of funding to continue?
