Insom just answered this somewhere, but you're right, -it's not. The goal is simply to sustain a place for thoughtful discussion on the web. It isn't even necessarily to grow the user base if that means harming that goal. Not to put words in your mouth insomniasexx...I just don't think it was ever a stated goal from the owner or admins.
