The accountability in politics lies in the voting booth. Democracy seems at least somewhat broken but what else do we have?

Democracy seems at least somewhat broken but what else do we have?

Some Italian city-states used demarchy (policy juries); the Quakers and kibbutzim used parpolity or sociocracy (cellular democracy); and many pre-historical societies used kritarchy (policy judges).

There are, of course, many other options, but I thought these were some of the more interesting ones.
