My data from several computers/tablets/phone is constantly pushed to my nas. I also have another lesser nas that only wakes-on-lan long enough to to mirror the active nas. All are on UPS's including the network gear.

I agree with you but for the last two years or so Reddit has become mainstream. You are right about mainstream users,they don't really care about censorship and the other problems of reddit.
The first step to move away from reddit is to move to using only rss feeds of the subreddits one has come to rely on.
