I agree with vlehto, you should check out Brian Eno! Here's a couple of great trip-hop artists: Emancipator, this is my absolute favorite trip-hop artist. Chilled out rhythms, it's really easy to get lost in this kind of music. And Emancipator is very, very good at what he does. Layered electronic structures with some great use of piano. I also really like Blockhead, who isn't quite as lied back in his approach to trip-hop. You'll notice that it's a bit more grating, the drums are a bit harsher, and not quite as lush, but I like that different sound. Burial is probably my absolute favorite electronic musician. His music borders on or is dubstep, or at least what classical dubstep is before it became overrun with who could produce the craziest drop. This is some great music especially for at night, the beats are always good and his production is impeccable. The shear quantity of great music he has put out is crazy. Hopefully these are along the lines of what you were looking for.
