Damn, that does sound awesome. More I hear about other peoples' high holidays, more I feel shafted by the ones I grew up with.

Here's a reading we'd sing every Yom Kippur (which involved a conspicuous lack of video games and substantially more sitting in temple all day trying not to throw up):

On Rosh Hashanah it is written and on Yom Kippur is sealed - how many will pass from the earth and how many will be created; who will live and who will die; who will die at his predestined time and who before his time; who by water and who by fire, who by sword, who by beast, who by famine, who by thirst, who by upheaval, who by plague, who by strangling, and who by stoning. Who will rest and who will wander, who will live in harmony and who will be harried, who will enjoy tranquility and who will suffer, who will be impoverished and who will be enriched, who will be degraded and who will be exalted. But Repentance, Prayer, and Charity avert the severe Decree!"

And in some kind of harmonic minor. Which, for all intents and purposes, made it sound and feel like something out of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

I think I like your depiction of Ramadan way better.
