Forgive my ignorance, but is this a big deal or fairly common occurrence?

this is a new thing. from a practical standpoint it's totally ineffective, those rockets did pretty much nothing, but public perception of the security of the canal will probably decline. it is a visible indicator that political violence in egypt is increasing, and the actors have their sights set on economic targets.
