Something for my parent friends.
My kids are all good at math, and people think we must practice at home all the time. We kind of do, but not like people think. We just ask a lot of tricky questions to each other because it's fun.
I didn't do bedtime math with my kids, but we talked math throughout the day. Like while driving, I'd spring questions on my 4-year old daughter in back like: "If you had 3 and a half cookies and shared them with Molly how many would you each get?"
And she'd haw and hmm and slowly answer "One... and a half... and what do call a half of a half?"
"A quarter."
"And a quarter."
I was teaching pre-service teachers at the university at the time, and there were lots of students in my classes who couldn't do what she could mentally, and at a young age. A lot of kids are like that.
So I wonder fellow Hubskiers, do you play any math or brain activities with your kids?
