Per usual I could use some opinions on life issues. This time it's debating a trip to Boston!
Pros:
Get to spend a weekend in Boston, which I've wanted to do for a few years now.
Get to see a couple of friends from high school and stay with them at the college.
Roommate from college said he would head down from New Hampshire if I were to go down there.
Girlfriend would also be meeting me there if I were to go, wouldn't have to go 2 months without seeing her, just one month.
Potentially go to a concert at the House of Blues for $20 for a pretty good band.
Doing whatever else there is to do in Boston.
Cons:
The cost of flying and parking my car at an airport, along with all other costs would come out to ~$300, or a good chunk of a weeks paycheck (after taxes of course). That money could go towards being saved, along with paying for an external hard drive and some other stuff. This is the biggest con by far.
I'm not a big fan of flying, but it's the only real way to get there.
I would have to sacrifice going to one or two other concerts over the summer to make this work.
UPDATE: Just made my flight reservations. I know StephenBuckley is a Boston Hubski person, any others?
Quick response! The band in Boston: The Joy Formidable. But going to bars might replace this, since my friend is turning 21 earlier in June. The bands I might have to pass up: Taking a two hour trip to see The Front Bottoms, and Mixtapes or Why?. One would require a 1-hour drive, the other a 2-hour drive and potentially staying overnight at another friends. ===
Got my weekends confused. Joy Formidable isn't the weekend I'm looking at going, but CVRCHES and Still Corners are playing that weekend.
Hrrrm. We've talked about Why? I think in the past, on their most recent tour with Astro. I don't know if I told you about how I hated them so much I had to leave. It was a bad vibes situation, not a bad band situation. I think. But that clouds my otherwise supremely rational mind. All in all a bit cloudy tonight. I fucking want to see The Front Bottoms. EDIT: holy shit that link is to a song from a new album that hasn't come out yet but is totally streaming on multiple websites and also the song is really great.
Huh. It must have been the night, Yoni can be hit or miss and is moody as all hell. The night I saw them they were in a pretty good mood and put on a good show. Yeah, I think this album is going to be big for the Front Bottoms.
If you choose Boston, check out The Middle East in Cambridge. Great place for live music. And if you are going to NH I'd continue to Maine. You can get a can of pop, and eat lobster on a picnic table by the river for very little. It doesn't get much better than that.
Mhmm, I've heard all about that place from one of my roommates. I'd just be staying in Boston for the weekend. I'll be going up to Maine in August though. It's a great state, definitely underrated and often looked over.
If it was me, I'd definitely go - I tend to choose the experiences I share with other people, especially old friends.
Unfortunately not, there closest is an Amtrak that arrives 30 minutes before my flight would leave (if I were to book this). Which is placing a huge bet on the train running on time and even then, that's not enough time. The bus schedule does not line up at all.
