I don't know much about this subject, but if these cells are used for current and various things would removing them from the body have negative consequences? And wouldn't it be redundant to just put the back in for later use if theyre already there?

Much like giving blood, the bone marrow reconstitutes its self relatively quickly. The reason there's an advantage in re-introducing them later in life is that as we age we have a less circulating stem cells and the ones that we do have become less and less effective at doing their jobs.
