"This is mission control. Regretfully this show isn't catching on as planned. Even after introducing some sex and violence to alleviate the tedious cabin slumming, the viewing figures are still falling. This will be our last shipment from earth: the little box contains four suicide pills. Be sure to leave the cameras running after ingesting."
I want human exploration of Mars as much as anyone else, -probably more so. But, I'm actually not for this. There will be motivations in a profit/entertainment-driven venture that will lead to shortcuts and jeopardize the lives of those involved.
Mars is going to be grueling, and there is a good chance that people will die. Also, those above ground structures are unrealistic. More likely they will cover any structures with dirt to reduce radiation exposure.

I guess I saw it as more of a cspan-level of entertainment. Not overly dramatic but narrated by Morgan freeman.
I doubt that the integrity of the mission would be compromised by sharing the trials and successes along the way via tv. I do think it could make the project more visible and create a common objective for humanity. It would need to be done by someone that respects the mission more than the ratings. Produced by James Cameron?

Morgan Freeman could read the sentence," the Martian surface was dry and arid" and make it sound dramatic and cool. I guess my point(not well made, I admit) was that Morgan Freeman could narrate cspan and make it interesting.

This is a wonderful idea. I have to separate it from the baggage the term "reality TV" carries but once I do, I'm in favor of it.
- 'We see this as a journey that belongs to us all, and it is for this reason that we will make every step one that we take together,'
Many of us are always asking how we can get more people interested in the pursuit of space, reality-television may be one of the ways. I'll watch, for sure.
