I guess the Times published this so they can plausibly dodge accusations of liberal bias? I subscribe to the Times, and the vast majority of their content is anti-Trump.
They've published op-eds by John Bolton, Vladimir Putin, and a bunch of other boogeymen over the years. I don't think it's about subverting accusations of liberal bias. Their editorial board is unabashedly liberally biased. I think it's more about fulfilling the whole "all the news that's fit to print" thing. In op-eds like these, they're happy to sit back and watch the commenters lol it into oblivion.
I'd say they're biased towards making money. This article looks at money the hard way, like trump does, and a whole plethora of product driven economies. Easy money = printing it up the ass. Check their editorial board and track them, it's all about their income and how they're making it.
