A cursory read through wikipedia's assassination page gives plenty of opposite examples.

Pretty sure Julius Caeser, Philip II of Macedon and Indira Gandhi weren't preaching peaceful co-existence.

Haha. You're right. As with many jokes, he's selectively making a point. I just didn't think of that list of people like that until I saw the comic.
