SEO. They have more links out on the web, and hope to trick search engines into thinking that their pages are popular and so should be indexed higher in search results.

Some percentage of users get confused and click the links too since they don't cost anything to generate why not

Yeah. One time I clicked a link on here about road safety and Ireland or something and the article was awful. I thought "Who thought this would be a thing worth sharing on Hubski?" After closing the article, I saw it was from a spam account. So, it does happen.

I had a couple of those and after that I just gave up on the global feed.
