Ok, so, AlphaGo is at least grandmaster (If that's an appropriate ranking) level good at Go. What is the qualitative difference between a competent competitor and an 'overwhelming' (Undefeatable by a human) AI?

An overwhelming AI would either have to beat people 99.99% of the time we have tried, or would have to have "solved" the game, so that it is literally impossible to beat it, as it knows all the possible future ways for the game to go.

Go is unique in that it is incredibly hard to "Solve", and this AI is unique in that it is a tree-based search modified by a neural network, so it's learning "like" a human being would, and making moves based on previous experience, rather than using your typical mathematical algorithm.
