"Brice Royer, 31, has been battling stomach cancer and depression for the last few years.
Earlier this year, heeding his doctor’s advice that love and caring are the best medicine, he posted a Craigslist ad selling free “unconditional love” that went viral.
Murray remembered watching him on TV. “He was this guy with cancer who talks about unconditional love,” she recalled. “Who is he?”
She searched him out on Facebook and the two became friends. When Murray learned Royer needed help cooking, she didn’t hesitate. “I’m a wonderful cook,” she said. “This was something I can do to help.”
Her selfless offer unleashed what Royer called a “chain of kindness.”
When Royer found out Murray was living at a shelter, he and Llanera surprised her with a weekly food delivery of organic produce she shared with other women at the shelter.
Then, when they learned her 18-month term at the shelter will end in February, they embarked on an ambitious plan: Build Murray a home.
Within a month they had raised $20,000 for the home and another $5,000 for Murray and her daughter’s short-term housing needs."
