I'm a big believer that education should be Free, For Everyone, For Ever. I would absolutely love to see tuition fees abolished in the UK, my own student loans for this year are about equal to the entire three years undergraduate loans I received before the price hike, but I simply do not see it happening. The current government has done everything in it's power to push towards total privatisation of education and it is only going to continue I'm afraid.
So Hubski, do you see tuition fees going away where you live? Have they already gone? Have you personally been impacted by them?
Hi there, you look fairly new to the site so I thought I'd say Welcome! and thank you for your input on this subject, I found there was a large body of Chinese-speaking students at the University of the West of England (UWE) when I attended and the UK certainly seemed like a popular destination for international students, so it's interesting to see that there has been a decrease in popularity. I wonder if there's anybody publishing statistics anywhere on this? A Guardian blog post from 2014: Drop in foreign student numbers: are UK universities too complacent? seems to support this idea but I did a quick comparison, UWE claim 2,838 international students in 2011/2012 source and 3,463 international students in 2013/2014 source so they've actually seen an increase!
Do high scores in the national exam correlate well with success in university? Nearly all universities in the US have moved away from strict reliance on test scores to more holistic applications, as test scores alone do not determine success. Some well-regarded schools have even started to make standardized test scores voluntary on their applications.
