I hate to be the bringer of doom, but let's face it, it's only a matter of time until this abomination becomes law. When I read "more than 2 million EU citizens have signed a petition against the deal" I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Has everyone already forgotten that 3 million people marched against the Iraq war in 2003 - in Rome alone? And many more worldwide. Governments have stopped being afraid of their citizens, and for good reason! The TTIP is a huge deal but not many people even know about it; those that know and care, choose to show their disapproval by signing a petition. Why would an anti-democratic power structure care about a popular petition?
I hate to agree, but it seems that there is a pattern whereby lawmakers get these deals through one way or another. European leaders are typically less insulated from public opinion than their US counterparts, however. I see the TPP as a near inevitability.
