Read all the Conan Doyle, read all the Christie, never found anything that approached that level. The Mystery of Edwin Drood. Some Poe. But mostly the genre is unfortunately filled with trash.

They're not as good as Christie, but it might be worth trying Ngaio Marsh and Dorothy L Sayers if you haven't yet.

Also the Cadfael mysteries by Ellis Peters are wonderful.

Love the Sherlock stuff. Doyle has a few non mystery novels that are good as well, just found my illustrated copy of "The White Company" while packing things up to move, it's a fun read.

Walter Mosley's, Easy Rawlins series is great.

Read a lot of historical fiction mystery books that were pretty good.

My Mom and Aunts devour mystery novels, I occasionally read one if they pass it on.

Never read anything else by Doyle, an oversight. Never considered that his other fiction might be good.
