Picked this up off of HN today.
So I saw this and was surprised that my location history was turned on. Pretty creepy. I turned it off, but I can still view all my movements for the period when it was turned on, and there doesn't seem to be any way to tell them to erase the data. Do Google make any guarantee that they don't store your location data when you have this "feature" turned off, or could it be that they still store it and just don't show it to you? In any case I am sure there is no way of turning off the ability of the police and intelligence agencies to find or track you through your phone. It is crazy that we walk around with these little spies in our pockets.
Don't know why, but mine frequently says that I traveled about 20 minutes from my house everyday, in the opposite direction of my workplace...sometimes instantaneously from my workplace. It's only been on for a month. Makes me question its accuracy. For example, today it says that I traveled 2.734 miles from my house, and I didn't even bring my phone with me to work.
I had what I would characterize as the opposite reaction to this as everyone else. I apparently didn't have the feature turned on and find that vaguely disappointing. It would've been really neat. Not so good if you're on parole, or you visited Chechnya twice in 2006 or etc, but for little old me who likes to keep track of his travel this would've been awesome.
