Beautifully explained, thanks for sharing this.

My brain isn't wired in a sense to understand hard science, but I sure as heck appreciate listening/reading/watching, and while most of it goes over my head, it still utterly fascinates me to a point of quiet awe everytime.

Everything to do with CERN and the Higgs Boson has had me captivated, much like when you're young and first learn about the enormity of space and universes beyond. Did I understand anything beyond the first sentence? The basics yes, but once equations, theories, terminologies (quarks? fluons?) came into it... Generally not.

And yet, something like this animation takes one of the most complex scientific concepts and makes it approachable and understandable, without patronising those of us who aren't scientifically minded.

Wholeheartedly agree. I don't get the science nearly as well as I wish I did/could. But that isn't the point for someone like me.

There is such beauty in the concept, such elegance in the pursuit of the particle. It is events like this that elucidate that there is art in science. That such a complex thought can also be so elegant, to me, is art.

And to think that such a complex thought can be explained with so much simplicity, beauty and power.
