What I still fail to understand is the lack of accountability for those that drove those countries to such indebtedness as to provoke decades of austerity for millions of people. Either by incompetence or not, this should be one of highest crimes in my book.
I would say the responsibility lies mainly in the politicians. Supposedly we vote them into office to be responsible representatives of our interests. If now we're paying for the mistakes some of them did while in government I think there should be some accountability to be had. That would be the expectation in any other job that I know of. Ok, maybe except banking.
Some Italian city-states used demarchy (policy juries); the Quakers and kibbutzim used parpolity or sociocracy (cellular democracy); and many pre-historical societies used kritarchy (policy judges). There are, of course, many other options, but I thought these were some of the more interesting ones.Democracy seems at least somewhat broken but what else do we have?
