Originally the theme from a set of children's songs, the music so inspired Anton Arensky that he wrote a tribute to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, its original composer, years after his death. Though the original theme, a motif appearing in all forms of high and low throughout the piece, is itself powerful music, but Arensky transforms the original conception of the theme into something much more magical. Arensky brings the listener from mechanical, staccato precision to pensive, dark lows using the same piece of music throughout.
Enjoy!
