I missed the NYT article; it's worth reading if only because it's got a nice basic explainer about the pros and cons of AI as it exists, as opposed to how it's imagined.
I think the thing I love about AI as it is (as opposed to AI as it's imagined) is that it's fundamentally a non-sequitur generator. The thing I hate about AI is that we're using it to reshape lives. It's something out of a Terry Gilliam movie.
