Now before you rush off to the comments, I'm well aware that professionals have completely different needs than mainstream consumers. They won't balk at paying $5,000 for a monitor if it can get a bit closer to reference screens that cost upwards of $40,000. And they won't blink an eye at the new Mac Pro's $5,999 starting price -- something that can easily scale north of $30,000 depending on what you plug in there.

Oh, trust me. There has been much blinking.

A favorite game of audio and video professionals is to go window-shopping for toys. DPs and editors are the worst. You just need to go to store.apple.com and fill out the high end options to see what success looks like - "when the feature gets distribution I can buy this!" We all used to marvel when you could cross $5k, then $8k, then $10k, then $12k. But now you can get a fully featured 8k Red package for less than a Mac Pro.

And we get business loans to buy Red packages. Because they earn us our money back.

Apple has successfully crossed from "credit card fantasy" to "line of credit" fantasy and nobody wants to spend "meet with a bank officer" money on something you buy at the mall.
