I'd seen vague references to this around and about (including a link to cryptome's copy of a supposed resignation agreement drafted by the Tor Project), but hadn't really known what was going on.
It's an interesting confluence of a lot of conversations right now: sexual violence and the accusers thereof, the fear of people being guilty until proven innocent in that case, online privacy (given that it involves Tor), and even government or other large actors' attempts to suppress speech.
I don't suggest that this last is what's going on (although anything is possible), but the whole situation is very odd.
