This diatribe on the hypocrisy of sexual ethics came to mind as I read the fascinating piece from the Guardian on male sexuality which notphil was kind enough to share. It's not a response to that piece, by any means, but inquires along similar lines. Lapham's observations are inspired and his prose luminous and stunningly articulate, as usual. Please forgive the format -- Harper's continues to restrict their own site to subscribing members, a decision I don't fault, despite the difficulties it imposes. Enjoy!
