I've been on Hubski for some time now, but I'm not sure of the exact length. Now, I haven't been active all of that time, but I have checked my feed pretty regularly.
Initially, I followed the power-users because those are the first posts that a new user usually sees. This has worked out pretty well, but I've found that the amount of people I follow has stagnated. Right now I follow 11 people and 1 tag, mainly because I don't know how to find more users that share similar interests to me.
I am not a huge fan of following tags, since to me that is no different that subscribing to a subreddit, for instance. The way I see it, I am better off following someone who shares some of my interests but also has independent ones as well. If they are similar enough to share some interests, then maybe I would be interested in their 'independent' interests as well. Its a way of discovering new interests. Following a tag doesn't do that; I'm only getting posts that relate to one topic. While this can sometimes be good, it's not what I come to hubski for.
So I ask you hubski, how did you go about building up the list of people that you follow? How have you made your hubski experience optimal?
