Sounds a lot like boy/girl scouts. Plus just seems like something that myself, as a teenager, would say fuck that mom that's for nerds, I'm not going.

I probably wouldn't have said fuck, mom would have beat my ass

Im curious, do you eat the meal in real time along with the album? If so, that sounds incredibly stressful

As a teenager, this one got me in a lot of trouble: "Reckless Abandon"

Anymore I tend to follow: "Don't be a bitch"

As in tough it out/dont be an asshole

I definitely see where you're coming from, interesting thought. Thanks for the insight.

tacoplz  ·  3956 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Could you live 'off the grid'?

I feel like a minority in this modern society but I love the smartphone. I love the wealth of knowledge accessible instantly, I enjoy texting my friends across the globe, and I like buying stuff while walking down the street. Why would I want to give this up? I don't want to give it up; I want to make it better, I want to make it private, I want to make it decentralized. It's not perfect but it's fucking awesome.

While obviously I'm not in the minority because so many people have smart phones but im willing to admit my love for the fuckers.

tacoplz  ·  3974 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: People Power -- For a better tomorrow

I was discussing this with some friends, a lot of people like to boast that the american system of government was written advance along with technological progress but I think the system is the limiting factor. It may be that people are too hesitant to abandon the systems situated to make voting easier during times before unlimited real-time communication (eg. electoral college), politicians have learned to alter the current system to their benefit (eg. gerry mandering), or the lethargy instilled in government jobs. Either way, i think the system is too convoluted.

tacoplz  ·  3975 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: People Power -- For a better tomorrow

With that situation, fewer decisions would be made by a an elected minority (which are selected from a small privileged minority) and more decisions would be made by the general population through the implementation of technology and a revised idea of patriotism (where in we dont support just support our troops and show at Walmart but actively participate in government).

sorry for the run on sentence

A system of government where you get up and vote on the day's issues like the modern day equivalent of reading the paper. Most all libraries have a computer where people without access to the internet could participate if they like the appropriate technologies.

tacoplz  ·  3979 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: The Year of the Great Redistribution

Corporate profits are were huge last year and everyone but the rich are drowning because wages are going down, white collar wages may have stayed constant but they haven't risen, despite inflation, for decades.

While most workers in the nation are pissed off because a small portion of their paycheck says that the money is going to subsidize welfare (the injured, infirm, and small percentage of IDGAF free money people whom most likely have children) they are blind to the fact that a majority their paycheck is stolen from them from above. They never even saw what was stolen from them in the first place. We see the small amount of money come out of our paycheck to support the super poor but we don't see the large amount of money that we should have earned but was taken to support the super rich. Society is looking the wrong way.

tacoplz  ·  3979 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: The Smartest Book About Our Digital Age Was Published in 1929 - The Daily Beast

I really like this article. I often find myself displaying many of these same tendencies. The article hints at a class war that the general population is unaware of because (cue absurd paranoia) the people in power always have us distracted the from important problems.

I dislike protestors that smoke pot and play guitar rather than studying/obtaining the skills required to better society, but the occupy movement was on to the problem. Big corporations and money run the government and, as a whole, the general public lacks the funds to change it. We need to educate, infiltrate, and modify. The problem isn't that young people can't make change, it's that after they put in the leg work to do so they want the monetary reward that everyone else in that position gets so the cycle never changes. Luckily there is at least one Snowden.

tl;dr I just downloaded the book; im excited to read it

tacoplz  ·  3981 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Abolish the Corporate Income Tax

What a stretch. If corporations are in the US with little to no taxes the corporations aren't going to put that money into raising the salaries of an already well paid working class (globally speaking). Perhaps a few more jobs would be created, but rather than expanding their business with humans they will focus on automated technologies, lobbying for laws in their favor, and increasing the size of their bank accounts.

the lack of memes

tacoplz  ·  3993 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: How Iron Maiden found its worst music pirates -- then went and played for them

This is how it should be, aside from the rare instances where the band owns the record label, bands make jack shit off of record sales. I dont care to pay record labels for an antiquated service and price fixing. Bands make money off of merch and ticket sales.

I find this article oddly inspiring. As if it reads "Don't take your critics too seriously, they're conditioned to reject innovation."

I like this option for sorting, however, I miss the ability to sort by shares (the 1-8), this was a large draw for me when joining the site. I enjoyed having the ability to choose from multiple "front pages". The current set up may be better but I really liked the previous style for its novelty.
