The original Bruce Campbell Evil Dead and Evil Dead II are fantastic films. Evil dead two is an odd film, it's a sequel and a remake/reboot at the same time. I had a rhetoric class a long time ago where we had to write a movie review. The teacher was looking for more than a review, an analysis if you will, academic, not the sort of thing you would read in a newspaper. We had to get pre-approval on our film. She hated the idea of reviewing a horror film and warned asked me to pick something different or face the possibility of a dropping a grade because there was nothing much worth saying about a horror film.
I hit that shit out of the park. I think the comment was "This is the paper i was looking for." I'm no fan of the horror genre, but those two films have a lot going on. They pull from a wide range of influences both literary and cinimatic and Bruce was one of the greatest physical comedians of all time (No Chaplin but I think better then say Jim Carrey, on par with Chevy Chase). Army of Darkness is a wholly different experience, but I think it's pretty delightful to take a franchise in an entirely different direction.
