Gustav Meyrink's The Golem, the Pygmalion bit of Ovid, or Frankenstein, for a hint that some of the stock depictions of artificial intelligence might not have all that much to do with technology at all. Richard Brautigan's All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace Marvin Minsky's Will Robots Inherit the Earth?, because it really would be a shame if Kurzweil was the only technologist they heard from.
