Interesting. I have never seen that movie. Hensen was a master puppeteer obviously, and what is so great about puppets is that they can have more exaggerated features than actors. Its the same reason animated movies often tell a better story (Jafar in Aladdin is a good example).
You also have to appreciate the craftsmanship that went into these puppets. Like Yoda in "A New Hope". Modern CGI provides the same effect, and not that I don't appreciate the craftsmanship that is modern CGI, but with many digital crafts these days the fact that the result is not tangible makes it harder to appreciate. You'll never see a collector have the original digital copy (on a USB drive I suppose) of an album in their gallery the way that they might have the first press of a record.
