I disagree I think, but it all depends. I have a facebook, twitter, had tumblr, etc. but I barely socialize in it. I don´t chat, barely message and etc. However my friends understand this and know that if they want to comunicate with me they text me and we can hang out whenever. Other friends however socialize all day in social media and have average interaction in real life. And then of course I have friends that all they do is socialize through the internet. What I´m trying to say is that it can be good and it can be bad, it all depends on who is using it and how they´re using it.
