Look, let me preface this by saying that I believe her. That said, I’ll play devils advocate here and say that I don’t think Kavanaough came across as an asshole. I think he came across as someone that is very upset for being, as he sees it, falsely accused of a heinous act. Let’s say he didn’t do it. Can you imagine what the conversations with his daughters is like? His wife? His parents? The times he cried, had nothing to do with beer and everything to do with mentioning one of those people. Mentioning being a coach, a teacher. This is when he cried. Anyone who says otherwise and actually watched it is a liar. This is an incredibly, incredibly sad situation. If she is lying, a man’s life is irreparably ruined. If she is telling the truth, a woman was visciously attacked by someone that is likely to be a Supreme Court judge. No matter what, this all sucks. There’s no need to make snide “he cried over beer,” comments. These are real people. Both of them. It’s very sad. Again, I think she’s telling the truth and I even think that it’s likely he is knowingly lying. But his tears were real and had to do with the pain his actions are having on his family and people he cares about. Not beer.
