For $99? It's definitely a cool thing. My student-level laptop is about $500 total, including new RAM and an SSD. It weighs about as much, is about as big and has about the same default CPU/RAM performance. Huh. I was thinking of buying a Chromebook back when I was looking for the laptop, exactly because it was light and performant. No luck buying one in Russia: the ones sold locally were older models. I was about to go on an elaborate scheme to order a laptop to a US address and ship it to Russia using third-party mail service that specialized in sending US-only stuff to Russia, while preparing the stickers for the keyboard layout and other localization stuff... Common sense prevailed, thankfully. Came up cheaper as a result, too.
